Moyes Waiting On Baines
Boss will give left-back every chance to prove his fitness.
David Moyes says he will give Leighton Baines ‘every chance’ to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's game at Manchester City.
The left-back had already been labelled a doubt for the clash having reported a tightness in his hamstring following Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
With less than 72 hours separating the two games, it is still too early to say whether the England star will recover in time, though he will be assessed ahead of kick off.
"I'm not sure how he's going to be," admitted Moyes on Friday. "I'm going to give him every chance but obviously he's going to be a big doubt."
Baines would join Kevin Mirallas, Victor Anichebe [both hamstring] and Seamus Coleman on the sidelines, with Moyes not expecting to welcome back any of his injured trio.
Meanwhile, skipper Phil Neville is a long-term absentee having undergone knee surgery earlier this month.
"We've got injuries but not too many," said Moyes. "Every club does and we're no different. But I don't think we've got anyone back."
Should Baines fail to make the trip to Eastlands, Moyes could turn to summer signing Bryan Oviedo.
However, the Scot hasn't ruled out shifting Sylvain Distin after he successfully deputised in the position towards the end of last season.
He said: "Of course there is the option of Bryan Oviedo but I could also put Sylvain in at left-back. He's played there quite a bit for us in the past."
