Betting Preview: Reading

Having halted a run of four successive draws with an impressive victory last weekend, Everton head to Reading on Saturday fourth in the Barclays Premier League table and with confidence in no short supply.

The 2-1 win over Sunderland extended the Blues’ unbeaten league run to eight games, while a 2-0 reverse at West Brom in early September remains the only defeat of the campaign.

With that form in mind, the Toffees are 5/6 to record their third away win of the season, with Brian McDermott’s Royals 10/3 and the draw 5/2 in Paddy Power’s online betting list.

There isn’t an expansive history between the two sides but when they last met in the league in 2007/08 it ended honours even with the sides each winning their respective home games by a single goal to nil.

But David Moyes’ players have shown their resolve to come from behind and take points in each of their last six games and there is good value to be had if you fancy the Blues to do so again.

Indeed, Paddy Power will give you odds of 40/1 that Moyes’ men overturn a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 2-1 as they did last weekend. For Everton to come from behind to win by any scoreline is also a tempting 8/1 bet with the online bookmaker.

Moyes was full of praise for his side last weekend after two goals in two minutes from Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic cancelled out Adam Johnson’s strike on the stroke of half-time.

Croatian international Jelavic has now netted 16 times in 23 starts since his arrival from Rangers in January and is 11/2 to add to his five goals this season by scoring first on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Fellaini has leapfrogged Jelavic as the Club’s leading Premier League marksman on six goals and is 6/4 to score at anytime at the Madejski Stadium.

The visitors are also 4/1 to win both halves in Berkshire, 5/2 to win to nil and 1/3 in the ‘draw no bet’ market with Paddy Power.

Leon Osman would love to cap the week in style with a goal after making his international debut for England against Sweden on Wednesday night.

The midfielder is 4/1 to score at anytime over the 90 minutes and add to his haul of 45 goals in 313 appearances for the Club.

Everton won 2-0 at the Madejski in 2006 thanks to goals from Andrew Johnson and James McFadden and a repeat of that scoreline is 17/2.
