Ossie Eyes More Caps

England debutant has a hunger for further international action.

Leon Osman immediately set his sights on winning further England caps after making his international debut on Wednesday evening.

The 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the Three Lions' 4-2 defeat to Sweden, putting in a performance in the centre of midfield which compelled manager Roy Hodgson to say he looked like a seasoned international.

And Osman admitted he had fulfilled a boyhood dream by representing his country in Stockholm.

He said: "To walk out there and sing the national anthem and play in the game was what every kid wants to do - and I am still a kid deep inside so I was delighted by it.

“I was disappointed not to nick a goal. I certainly felt comfortable and enjoyed it.

“I don’t think I had to prove anything. I’ve shown I’m capable of performing at this level.

"I said the other day I am delighted to be here and go out there and get a cap - it is what I wanted to do.

"Now I have got one cap, I want more."

Hodgson gave hope to those ambitions too, singling out the Blues’ Academy graduate for praise on his performance.

He said: “All three of the debutants did very, very well – Osman in particular.

“He played as if he’d been in the national team all of his life.”
