Barkley Benefitting From Loan
Midfielder named Sheffield Wednesday’s player of the month.
Ross Barkley admits his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday is doing him good after scooping the Yorkshire club’s player of the month award for October.
The young Blue joined the Championship side on an initial one-month deal in September before later agreeing to an extension of the same duration.
Barkley has netted four times in nine appearances for the Owls so far - including two strikes against Ipswich in a 3-0 away win on 27 October.
“I have really enjoyed my time here so far,” said the 18-year-old upon receiving his award. “I feel as if I have made a lot of progress and that is the most important thing.
“The manager [Dave Jones] and the coaching staff talk to me all the time and that’s a great help. I am playing regular football at a good level in the Championship so I am really pleased with how things are going."
Following his heroics against the Tractor Boys, Barkley was on target again to help Wednesday to a 2-1 win over Peterborough last weekend.
It’s a clear sign the youngster is reaping the rewards of regular competitive football – something he believes can only bode well for his future ambitions with the Blues.
“We have just come out of a bad run of results with two wins but I was always confident we would start winning games again.
“There are some really good players here and I’m enjoying playing with them. I wouldn’t like to pick out any individuals because everything we do is a team effort.
“I’m taking things one step at a time and we will see what happens from here. I see my future in the long term with Everton but right now, I am enjoying my football and the experience I am getting with Sheffield Wednesday.”
