David Moyes has given his backing to the Kick It Out campaign as football continues its attempts to erase racism from the game.

Recent events have brought the issue back into focus, most notably an ugly clash during an England Under-21s game in Serbia which saw several members of the Young Lions squad racially abused by supporters before a brawl broke out on the field.

With the increased attention on the matter, Kick It Out is to be endorsed during this weekend's Premier League fixtures and the Blues boss admitted he would take his players off the pitch if they were ever subject to such events as those in Serbia.

Moyes said: "It is disgraceful that a football match would end that way. The racism has to be stopped. It was just terrible scenes. We've seen fights and scuffles in football before, but if this has been brought on by racism, then it's terrible.

"If I got complaints from my black players, then I would consider taking the team off. I think it's something in football that we'll have to stop but we also have got to say that massive strides have been made in my eyes.

"It's not right and not everything is, but I do think it's more in people's minds now and they are careful of their thoughts and what they say. I do think people are trying to make sure racism isn't part of our game.”

Ahead of the weekend's games a number of Premier League players, including Reading's Jason Roberts, have stated their intentions to shun the Kick It Out campaign by not wearing the t-shirt. The theory that the efforts of the scheme do not have a prolonged effect is not one that the Everton manager subscribes to however.

"I've not asked the players if they will wear the t-shirts or not. People can have their own ideas and they are entitled to do what they want, but I would wear one because we want to make sure there is no racism in the game and I would stand behind the campaign."
