David Moyes intends to take his time introducing Thomas Hitzlsperger into the Premier League fray.

The German midfielder signed a short term deal with Everton on Friday after training with the Blues for several weeks.

But Moyes is keen to take an even closer look at the 30-year-old and doesn't expect the German to figure imminently in the first team.

The Everton manager said at his Friday press conference : "What we're going to do is see how he is first. We're not saying what he's going to bring to us - he may even come here and not play. We just want a longer period to have a look at him, make sure he's fit and see if he can offer us something.

"We're short on midfield players so we could do with another, but I couldn't turn around right now and say he's ready to play in the Premier League. But he's trained for four weeks - the equivalent of doing a pre-season."

Hitzlsperger's 2011/12 campaign was obliterated by serious injury and Moyes explained that he will now have the chance to force his way into the first team frame.

"We're short on midfield players so we could do with another, but I couldn't turn around right now and say he's ready to play in the Premier League," continued Moyes.

But he's trained for four weeks - the equivalent of doing a pre-season and he's been a good lad to have around the place, so we're more than happy to give him that opportunity.

"He's missed about eight months of football, so we'll give him a go. This two months where we have him on a short contract means we can have a longer look and get him involved when we can and where we need to to see a bit more. I think January would be a better time for us to decide whether we were going to continue his contract until the end of the season or extend it even longer."

mal houghtonhope he`s back soon.....had a great season so far. the club benefits from his presence, enthusiasm and ability
