Boss Eager For More
Boss wants Saints brilliance for 90 minutes.
David Moyes has challenged his players to transform their first half brilliance against Southampton into a regular 90-minute display.
After the going behind early against Saints, Moyes’ side upped the ante and blew their guests away with an irresistible 30-minute spell.
Nikica Jelavic scored twice and was only denied a hat-trick by a wonder save from Paulo Gazzaniga. Leon Osman opened his account for the season and looked on as Marouane Fellaini rattled the bar. Three could easily have been five or six.
Now Moyes wants to see that level sustained for the duration – week in and week out.
“I hope there is more to come from us,” he told evertontv. “Because we want to play like we did in the first half against Southampton for 90 minutes.
“There will be times when we have to grind things out like we did in the second half, but we want to play like we did at Swansea and against Aston Villa and we want to keep that going.”
The Blues boss invested in attacking flair and width over the summer, with his most significant acquisition already looking an inspired signing.
Belgian international Kevin Mirallas has got better with each game so far and on Saturday laid on a glorious assist for Jelavic’s first goal.
Moyes added: “He is doing much better to start than I thought he might do. I thought we might have to take our time with him and bed him in.
“But he is doing a great job for us playing from the right at the minute and he is looking bright and looking a threat so I am really pleased with him.”
