PM Hails Everton Free School

David Cameron praises work of latest community project.

The Prime Minister has today hailed Everton Free School for its approach to helping the most vulnerable young people on Merseyside improve their life chances.

Speaking in an address about the Free School movement, David Cameron applauded the work Everton Free School is undertaking to help youngsters aged 14-19 in Liverpool benefit from improved educational opportunities.

The Prime Minister said: “Groups of people, parents, teachers have come together to do something amazing.

“This autumn there are already 79 free schools in place. They are opening up opportunities that have never before been possible, showing that there is always more than one way of doing things and that choice and diversity are powerful ways of changing lives for the better.

“Schools like Everton Free School, for teenagers, some of whom were excluded from traditional forms of education, have been using the power of sport to teach responsibility and self-reliance."

Everton Free School opened in September and will take up to 120 students aged 14-19 in its first two years, rising to a capacity of 200 boys and girls from year three.

The school works on a referral basis and can only accept students who have been nominated by commissioners, such as other schools or the Local Educational Authority.

The school is based at Liverpool Community College’s Learning Exchange on Roscoe Street and through its strategic partnership with the College has access to all LCC buildings in addition to the Club’s facilities at Goodison Park and Finch Farm.
