The Everton man is being investigated for allegedly elbowing Serbia's Srdan Mijailovic during the recent round of World Cup qualifiers.

If the forward is found guilty of violent conduct he could face a ban of up to three games.

Scotland's upcoming matches are against Wales and Belgium next month and the Welsh again in March.

A FIFA spokesman said: "FIFA can confirm that it has now opened disciplinary proceedings against Steven Naismith."
