Phil Jagielka and Neil Warnock used to upset Leeds United together - but only one of them will leave Elland Road smiling on Tuesday night.

Jagielka and Everton travel to Yorkshire to face Warnock's Leeds outfit in an eagerly-anticipated televised Capital One Cup third round tie.

The Blues' England defender is no stranger to a ground he used to regularly visit as part of Warncock's Sheffield United team.

Jagielka told evertontv: "It was always a big Yorkshire derby for us and we had some good results, a couple of wins over there and a couple of wins at our place.

"But that was always with Neil Warnock as our manager instead of like it will be this time with him in charge at Leeds.

"I probably won't see him before the game so how it is will probably depend on the result. If they get the result they want then he will be chasing after me for a hug and handshake. If we get the result we want then it will be different I am sure. We'll have to see how we go.

"He is the sort of character you either love or hate but he was the man who gave me my first big chance. He will always have a special place for me as you don't forget those people who help you in your career.

"You want characters in the game, you don't want to be watching interviews on the telly and switching them off because they are boring and Neil Warnock is certainly not boring."

With 5,000 Evertonians taking the chance to travel to Yorkshire and a famous old ground they haven't visited since 2004, a rousing atmosphere is expected.

Leeds had historically been one of England's top clubs before their financial problems of recent years banished them to the lower divisions.

They are back in the second tier now after a spell in League One and Jagielka feels they'll be relishing the opportunity to turn over a top-flight side in the cup.

He said: "Leeds have got some good players in their team and Elland Road will probably be quite full so it is going to be a difficult game for us.

"They have had a torrid time since dropping out of the Premier League with their financial situation, players leaving, not being able to bring people in like they want, so they will look forward to these games and proving that Leeds still belong up there with the big sides.

"But it is up to us to do a professional job. Hopefully we can perform like we did against Leyton Orient, get a couple of early goals and control the game.

"The cup doesn't always work out like that and that's why we all love it.

"When you play teams in lower divisions they often come out and have a go at you early on and if they have some chances then it gets the fans behind them and it can make it a tough night.

"But we will go and do our best and it would be nice to get through."
