Baines: It Could Have Been Six
Baines encouraged by Blues' creativity.
Leighton Baines reckons Everton could have scored six at Swansea.
The Blues cemented a superb start to the 2012/13 season with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
But with 30 attempts at goal and 19 on target, Baines felt the winning margin could have been doubled.
“It was [a complete performance],” he said. “We played really well. They had a spell of 15 minutes towards the end of the first half and a short spell in the second but other than that we dominated the game.
“We have been creating lots of chances this season and there could have been no complaints if we’d scored another three today.
“Swansea had some chances and will think themselves unlucky not to have scored a goal – that is something for us to look at – but we are playing really well at the moment.”
Kevin Mirallas got the second and Marouane Fellaini the third, but it was the man who started the rout, Victor Anichebe, who won most praise for his display.
Baines added: “Victor is showing the ability we have known for a long time that he possesses.
“Hopefully he can get a run in the team now and keep showing everyone else what he has got because he is a great asset to us when he is playing like that.”
Victory in South Wales pushed Everton right into the mix towards the top of the Premier League but Baines insisted nobody is getting carried away just yet.
“We’ll aim to stay there," he said. "We’ll aim to win every game and push on.
"There is a small window of games before the international break so we will concentrate on that, try and do well in those games and then afterwards concentrate on the period leading up to Christmas. We’ll take it in small steps.”
