Moyes Wary Of Swans' Clinical Edge

Moyes says Laudrup has given side more attacking clout.

David Moyes has warned his players not to underestimate Swansea City despite completing the double against the South Wales club last season.

That's because the Scot believes Saturday's opponents have a more clinical edge under new boss Michael Laudrup.

Last season's surprise package with the Liverpool-bound Brendan Rodgers at the helm, the Swans have earned a reputation for their stylish, possession-led approach under successive managers.

Yet Moyes senses Laudrup is now trying to augment that with a greater emphasis on attack - evidenced by high-scoring early season wins against QPR and West Ham United.

"Swansea are a really good side and have done great," said Moyes on Friday. "But it's a different season, it's a new manager, and from what I've seen already I think he's slightly different to Brendan in bits and pieces of how they play.

Michael Laudrup

"I don't think you're going to see an identical Swansea City as what Brendan had last year. I think what they've done Swansea, they look as if they can score goals, I think they've got a little bit more threat. And they've shown that, especially in the amount of goals they've scored in the early part of the season."

Famed for his achievements as a player, Laudrup won a European Cup and no less than seven domestic league titles in four different countries.

But Moyes believes it was the standards he set as a manager at Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Mallorca that marked him out as the ideal candidate to build on Swansea's recent rise.

"In many ways I think he [Laudrup] might fit the bill and meet the criteria for the sort of manager they wanted," said Moyes. "Roberto Martinez was first in there, people like Paulo Sousa have been in and then Brendan [Rodgers] was in. So they've had a sort of style to it and Michael Laudrup I'm sure will continue it, as you're seeing by the results just now and by the way you're seeing them playing.

MichuSwansea's early season star Michu

"I don't think that will change at Swansea. I think they're trying to get that as part of their long time style and culture really."

Michu is one new addition to have caught the eye for Saturday's hosts, with three goals in his first three Premier League appearances softening the losses of Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair to Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.

Moyes, though, was loathe to pick out individuals and instead stressed the overall quality of an ever-improving squad.

He said: "They're a good team with good players. They've lost a few but they've added one or two as well.

"I think Swansea have done what they've done [over a period]. It will take some new players a little bit of time to come into the system and understand but I think Swansea have now been playing that way for several years."
