Phil Jagielka believes Swansea City made a canny move in choosing Michael Laudrup as their replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

The Danish boss has worked quickly to stamp his own mark on the team since joining the Swans in the summer, while carrying forward the renowned attacking philosophy instilled by his Liverpool-bound predecessor and another previous incumbent, Roberto Martinez.

A player whose glittering career earned him moves to Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Ajax, Jagielka says his early achievements at the Liberty Stadium prove he brings more to management than just his famous surname.

Spells at Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Mallorca had previously marked the 48-year-old out as a progressive and ambitious young manager and Jagielka told evertontv: “Nobody knew what to expect when Brendan Rodgers left and they got Michael Laudrup in and, to be fair, he's taken off from where they left it, if not added another dimension to their game. They've had a fantastic start to the season.

"His football career speaks for itself but it would be a bit harsh if you didn't look at his managerial career.

"He started off as a young manager and had a fantastic record and the reason he got the job is because he's a good manager, not just because he was a good footballer. The results and performances so far have proved the decision to bring him in was a very good one."

Under Rodgers, Swansea were the Premier League's surprise package last term, their effervescent style and form at the Liberty Stadium key factors in them gliding to an 11th place finish in their first top-flight campaign in 28 years.

In fact, the South Wales outfit suffered just four defeats on home turf - one of those being a 2-0 reverse against Everton in March.

Jagielka recalls an afternoon when everything fell into place for the Toffees but is loathe to predict a similar level of comfort when the Blues travel across the border on Saturday.

A 5-0 opening day rout of QPR at Loftus Road and 3-0 home demolition of West Ham United are evidence of what Laudrup’s modified Swansea are capable of.

"It's going to be a hard game," said Jagielka. "We had a fantastic game plan at their place last year and every single player played well.

"We created quite a lot of chances and maybe should have won the game by more. But it was  fantastic victory and, hopefully, with the way we've started this season, if we can play anything like that, have a bit of luck and score the goals, we'll be coming away as happy as we were last year."
