Marouane Fellaini has been named Everton’s Player of the Month for August.

The versatile Belgian started the season in superb form with a beastly performance in the opening game win over Manchester United.

The 24-year-old followed up his winning goal against the Red Devils with another in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

The defeat at West Brom was frustrating for both Fellaini and his side, but the Belgian was back on song as the Blues dominated against a Newcastle team lucky to escape Goodison Park with a point.

Fellaini, who was presented with his award at a TW Steel-sponsored gala dinner at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel, said: “It is a nice feeling to win the award. August was a good month and the main thing is that the team has started well.

“The win against Manchester United was a game in which every single player performed very well and I was lucky enough to get the winner.

“That was a great feeling as it is not every day you score a winner against a big team like that.”

Next up for the Blues is a trip to Swansea on Saturday, and Fellaini added: “That is a tough game. Swansea were a revelation last season and played good football.

“We beat them twice and that will give us extra confidence for the game, but it is a new season, they have a new manager and some new players. It will be difficult but we will be looking to win the game.”
