Bryan Oviedo has set his sights on forcing his way into Everton’s first team after arriving on deadline day.
The Costa Rica international was signed from Danish side FC Copenhagen on Friday and admits the completion of the switch has ended a period of uncertainty.
Oviedo, 22, who speaks good English, is now focused on making his mark in the Blues squad.
He exclusively told evertontv: “I was feeling a little nervous because Everton are a very good team and a big club.
“Now I am feeling good, I am happy with everything. I knew that sometimes Everton were watching Copenhagen games but not especially to watch me.”
Versatility has often been a quality possessed by David Moyes’ acquisitions and Oviedo is no different.
“I am a player who likes to attack,” he explained. “I can help in attack but also in defence as well. I can play both positions (left-back and left midfield).
“I played many years as left-back, now [more recently] I have been playing further forward.”
Everton’s players will have to wait to meet their new teammate because he is jetting off to play for his country in two World Cup qualifiers against Mexico.
But he can’t wait to work with a group of players he’s monitored closely on TV.
“I know a lot about Everton,” he declared. “I watch Everton games and Premier League games on the TV and it is a very good league.
“I need to come here and work hard for a place. I know there are very good players and I will need to train very well to have a chance of getting in the team.”
