Neville Southall has revealed his forthcoming autobiography will be titled 'Neville Southall: The Binman Chronicles'.

The legendary stopper ran a competition on evertonfc.com asking supporters to put forward a name for the book and today picked out Graham Bateman's suggestion as his favourite.

Southall, who made a Club record 751 appearances during a 17-year stay at Goodison Park, had a short stint working in refuse collection before breaking into the world of football - a tale he explains in the early pages of the book.

"For some reason, everybody assumes I was a binman for years and years and years, even though it was only six weeks!" the former Wales international told evertontv on revealing his winner.

"Every entry we had either mentioned gloves, posts or bins. We had some really good entries but I thought, well, I was a binman and it is a story, so The Binman Chronicles, we'll go with that."

Southall's book, which takes in his formative years growing up in Llandudno, a playing career that spanned three decades and his life since hanging up his gloves, is due for release on August 13.

During his time as a player, the custodian, a 1981 signing from Bury, became an iconic figure on Merseyside, helping the Toffees to two First Division titles, two FA Cups and success in the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup.

The 53-year-old also turned out for the likes of Stoke, Bradford and Torquay and had spells in management with Dover Athletic, Hastings United and Margate.

"I didn't want it to be another boring football book, so I've tried to do it from where I started before my career up to what I'm doing now," said Southall. "I just hope everybody likes it."

You can hear what Southall had to say about his autobiography, Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard and a range of other Blues-related topics by watching the free video above.
