Round Rues Decisions

Steve Round on controversial penalty and offside claims at Wolves

Watch Video Round Rues Decisions

Steve Round felt incorrect key decisions cost Everton all three points at Molineux.

The Blues could only manage a goalless draw against Terry Connor's Championship-bound Wolves but saw a Leon Osman penalty appeal turned down and a Nikica Jelavic 'goal' wrongly ruled out for offside.

Everton, who were looking to all but sew up seventh spot in the Barclays Premier League, had a second effort scrubbed off after the break when substitute Denis Stracqualursi bundled in, though Round conceded the officials had been right on that occasion.

"He [Michael Kightly] has clipped Ossie in the box and he [referee Lee Mason] is right there," said Round. "We can't understand why he hasn't given a penalty for that.

"With Jelavic's goal, he was clearly onside. With the second one, credit to the linesman because [Marouane] Fellaini was in an offside position. But we are disappointed in the first one.

"You do need the officials to get those key decisions right. You saw that in the [FA] Cup final yesterday - I don't think the ball crossed the line and the key decisions were correct. We get a key decision today and it's not correct, and it probably stopped us going on to win the game.

"Having said that, we played some really good football, some really intelligent, creative, attacking football with some good passing and movement - we just couldn't find the final shot or pass to create the goal. We are disappointed in the dressing room that we didn't turn our dominance into points. We had enough chances."

But while the Blues were perhaps wasteful at one end, Round was impressed with another resolute showing at the other.

"Our two centre-halves were immaculate," he added. "Phil Jagielka was outstanding today.

"We're playing with confidence and we believe we can score goals and keep clean sheets in every game."
