Academy graduate Leon Osman says walking out for his 300th Everton appearance was 'special'.

The midfielder, 30, brought up a triple century of first-team run-outs on Saturday as the Blues thrashed Fulham 4-0 at Goodison Park.

Handed his debut by David Moyes in January 2003, Osman has gone on to establish himself as a mainstay under the Scot and admitted his pride at reaching the three-tonne landmark.

“It felt special to play my 300th game,” said Osman. “I’ve got some great memories.

“It has worked out that I have always been part of what the manager has built here – and that was the plan.

“He put me out on loan (to Carlisle and then Derby County), but brought me back quickly and since I made my first start (at Wolverhampton Wanderers in May 2004), I seem to have been part of things.

“I have continued to work hard, do my best for him, and hopefully he will still keep picking me.

“They are good memories to have. It is nice to hit a landmark like 300 games for Everton, but hopefully I’m not finished yet."

January arrival Nikica Jelavic scored twice against the lacklustre Cottagers to take his goals tally to 10 in 13 games, while Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill also netted to extend the Blues' impressive run to just three defeats in 20 outings.

And Osman added: “It was a great January transfer window for us. The players that came in to the squad have all added something to us, and we definitely improved. Now we can finish the season off well, and look forward to next season.

“It seems to happen that we get asked the same question at the end of each season - are we frustrated that we didn’t start so well, but came good at the end. There is nothing we can do about it right now. We have to carry on playing the good football we are doing and look to make the changes at the start of next season.”

Duncan SmithI recently saw him labelled the 'billinge bebeto'. Long may those quick feet continue.
