It is almost 25 years since Everton last tasted title glory – and that memorable 1986/87 season is celebrated in a new souvenir magazine out now.
Written by the Club, the 84-page special looks back on a glorious campaign when the First Division trophy was wrestled back from the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool.
Everton fans need no reminding that the Reds had won the double the season before, but the 86/87 campaign saw the Blues rightly regain their crown and taste title glory once more.
We meet key performers from a brilliant production, with exclusive insights from the likes of Howard Kendall, manager as the Toffees won their second title in three years.
Kendall’s assistant Colin Harvey also gives his viewpoint on the season. He recalls the day he knew the trophy was coming home – when Everton won at Arsenal and Liverpool lost at home to Wimbledon.
He said: “That was a defining moment that season. I knew when Wayne Clarke’s goal went in that we’d have more than a chance of winning the championship.”
There’s also the views of a whole host of other key men as captain Kevin Ratcliffe, Dave Watson, Paul Power, Derek Mountfield, Neville Southall, Bobby Mimms, Adrian Heath, Graham Sharp, Wayne Clarke, Neil Adams, Kevin Langley, Trevor Steven, Peter Reid, Kevin Sheedy, Terry Darracott and then-chairman Sir Philip Carter give their unique take on Everton’s magnificent achievement.
As well as all this, we look back on the day the title was clinched - Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May 1987. It was an afternoon that those who were there will never forget - and Toffees supporters and the players reminisce about the memorable journey home from Norfolk celebrating the championship crown.
The publication comes with the official DVD of the 1986/87 season and is priced £6.99. It is available to buy from Everton One, Everton Two and all good retail outlets. Or it can be purchased online here.
