Hillsborough Remembered

Everton today joins the footballing world in remembering the 96.

Hillsborough Remembered

On this day in 1989, 96 Liverpool supporters lost their lives watching the team they loved.

Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium was abandoned at 3.06pm as tragedy unfolded behind one of the goals.

The disaster united a city in grief and today, 23 years on, it will unite a city in remembrance.

At yesterday's FA Cup semi-final between Everton and Liverpool, 90,000 supporters inside Wembley Stadium paused for a period of silence ahead of kick off, while captain Phil Neville joined Steven Gerrard in presenting a bouquet of flowers to family members of the victims.

On Saturday evening, Everton Football Club also added its own floral tribute to those beside the Hillsborough Memorial outside Liverpool's Anfield home.

The players, management, staff and supporters of Everton have a simple message for those who lost loved ones on that fateful day – we remember and we will never forget.
