Distin Takes Responsibility
Gutted Frenchman in frank post match interview.
Sylvain Distin
A distraught Sylvain Distin believes his error is the reason Everton will not be competing in this year's FA Cup final.
The Frenchman's underhit backpass was seized upon by Luis Suarez for Liverpool's equaliser.
And even though that goal only made the score 1-1 following Nikica Jelavic's first half strike, Distin was brutally honest when he manfully faced the media after the game.
He told evertontv: "Obviously the most important emotion is the final one, it is not easy, I know that I cost my teammates, the fans and my family a place in the final and that is my point of view.
"I don't think I am hard on myself, I am a realist, that's it. That pass, for me, cost us the game. I have to face it. I never hide no matter what happens, good or bad.
"Tomorrow will be frustrating, right now it is disappointment. I feel like I have let my teammates down."
Everton's players rallied round Distin after the Wembley clash but it provided little consolation to the experienced Frenchman.
"The guys have been amazing but they know me, they know I am man enough to face my responsibilities," he said.
"They don't need to tell me what I did right and wrong because I am mature enough to know that.
"I have to deal with it and accept it. I could use 50,000 excuses but the fact is I missed the pass and I cost a goal and cost the game because it changed the game."

chris benjaminCan't blame Distin for what happened yesterday; he's had a cracking season. It was up to the rest of the lads to pick up their act once Liverpool scored and they didn't follow through.

CRAIG MUTTERFair play for coming out and admitting your mistake but it was a shocker and Distin has a lot of making up to do. Starting with a goal at Old Trafford in the next game.

Alan DoranSorry to hear you think the result was your fault Sylvain, it was a team performance. We just never come out second half with our dogs of war approach.

Mark DaviesThe best players make mistakes. The whole team underperformed so no one should blame 1 man. You've been a good player for us and that's how you'll be remembered.

James YoxallSilvan is a star player, the way we played 2nd half kept putting our defenders under pressure - totally wrong tactics in 2nd half.
