Gueye Grateful For Cup
Frenchman eyes another starring role in competition at Wembley.
Magaye Gueye
Magaye Gueye says the FA Cup has provided a platform for him to show what he can do – now he is dreaming of facing Liverpool at Wembley.
The French winger has featured in every round of the competition – his assist for Nikica Jelavic at Sunderland absolutely key to the Blues securing a place in the last four.
Now, fresh from scoring his first Everton goal against Black Cats in the Premier League on Easter Monday, Gueye is hopeful he’ll once again get the chance to shine in the cup.
“I think the FA Cup has been good for me,” the 21-year old told evertontv. “I am very happy to have been involved.
“I think if I continue like that and prove in training that I can play - I think I will be involved [on Saturday].”
It’s not just carrying on his run in the competition that excites Gueye – Saturday could see him participate in his first Merseyside derby.
Since joining from Strasbourg in the summer of 2010, has progressed through the reserves to become a regular member of David Moyes’ matchday squad.
Yet Gueye is still to experience the unique flavour of a clash between two of the game’s oldest rivals.
He said: “When I was in France, I didn't know it was a very, very important game here. But now, I am very excited to play in it.
“I work hard every day to play in this game. I know it is important for the Club and for the fans. Everybody waits for this game. We need to make sure everybody is ready.”
With over 30,000 Blues set to make the journey to London this weekend, Gueye has called on the supporters to be as loud as they were in previous rounds.
Some 6,000 Evertonians headed to the Stadium of Light on a moody Tuesday evening and roared the Blues on in a sparkling 2-0 victory.
“They were fantastic there,” Gueye added. “It was a very good atmosphere. You can feel them and you know you're not alone. With the fans behind you, that pushes you.
“We need that when we are away.”
