Tim Howard says silverware would complete his Everton career.

The American goalkeeper this week signed a contract until 2016, a deal which will take him up to a decade with the Club.

Howard is well established as Everton's number one, has become a senior figure in the dressing room and is accruing a string of personal accolades, statistical successes and goalkeeping milestones.

But after tasting the FA Cup final atmosphere in 2009, it's a trophy he craves most of all.

"I want to continue to push the envelope and get ourselves into Europe, get to some more cup finals," Howard told evertontv.

"We tasted that in 2009 and it seems forever ago now.

"We want to get back to that stage and put ourselves firmly in the picture to win some silverware.

"It is such a pleasure to give these fans such excitement, that's what motivates us."

At 33, Howard is still in his prime as a goalkeeper and he admits he's given serious thought to how long he will continue playing.

Compatriot Brad Friedel, for example, is not far off his 41st birthday but continues to impress for Tottenham.

"I find it difficult to figure out how the 40-year-old goalkeepers get out of bed every morning," smiled Howard.

"There's a lot I want to do with my life in my post-playing career. I have interests and ambitions.

"As long as I am fit and healthy and have that fire in my belly I have to consider continuing to play but as you get to 38, 39, 40 a lot of those things diminish.

"I am delighted that by that time (the end of the contract) I will have spent my adult life in England and the majority of that at Everton.

"When it finishes I will take stock and see what I want to do."
