Blues Draw Cats In Cup
Sunderland test for Toffees at Goodison in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Everton will face Sunderland at home in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Both sides overcame Blackpool and Arsenal in their respective fifth round ties and were thrown together in the final eight.
Goals from Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi gave Everton a 2-0 win over the Seasiders, whilst Kieran Richardson and an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain own goal meant that Martin O'Neill's side beat the Gunners by the same scoreline.
The Blues last played the Black Cats on Boxing Day, when a Leighton Baines penalty secured a point in a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.
Interestingly, David Moyes has never lost against Sunderland in 14 meetings.
The tie will be played over the weekend of 16-20 March. The FA website reads: "Ties to be played over the weekend of 17 March. Match may be scheduled for the Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday."
In the fourth round against Fulham, Goodison Park hosted a thrilling Friday night cup tie in which the Blues triumphed 2-1.
Everton have now been drawn at home eight successive times in the domestic cups.
Blues defender Shane Duffy took to social networking site Twitter to display his elation at the draw.
He tweeted: "Good draw at home against Sunderland in the cup! Tough game but have a good feeling about this year!"
The home Premier League fixture against Arsenal originally scheduled for 17 March has now been postponed, with a rearranged date to be announced.
Everton and Sunderland officials are in discussions with the FA and broadcasters to confirm a date for the fixture. Details and ticket information will be released soon.
