Moyes: We Can Get Better
Boss delighted but says Blues will continue to improve.
David Moyes hailed his Everton side after they saw off Chelsea - and then claimed they can get even better.
An early goal for Steven Pienaar got the Blues off to the perfect start before Denis Stracqualursi made the points safe late on.
Moyes was understandably thrilled with the victory but wants his side to keep on winning.
"It was a great result for us and there were good parts of the performance as well," he said. "The strange thing is I think we can play much better. I think we'll play better once we hopefully get a bit of confidence and the wins take us along
"We got off to a great start with the early goal and it gave us something to hang on to. In fact, we started well in the first 15 minutes or so, but then I thought they grew into the game and we had to ride our luck a bit on a couple of occasions. But I thought in the second half we didn't look as if we were going to concede - I thought we defended brilliantly well."
Moyes was also full of praise for Pienaar, who shone on his first Goodison appearance since rejoining the Club.
"Pienaar, you'd have come here and clapped him today," said the boss. "And that's why he did get clapped by everybody at the end. Bits of his stuff were terrific.
"I just said to him in the dressing room, it's as if he's never been away. Sometimes clubs fit players, that is the case, and maybe this just suits him. I think that [performance] shows why he was wanted by so many clubs a year or so ago."
Nikica Jelavic was unable to join Pienaar in making his home debut and Moyes confirmed a stomach problem had kept the Croatian out.
He said: “I didn't know until this morning. He's got something up with his stomach but I don't what it is. I'm not sure if it's a muscular thing or an inflammation thing.”
