Moyes: Take Nothing For Granted

No room for complacency says boss as Blues prepare for Wigan.

David Moyes has warned his Everton players to treat Wigan Athletic with the same respect they did Manchester City. 

Having seen off the table-topping Citizens with a courageous 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, Moyes' men travel to the Premier League's bottom club on Saturday hoping to record a third straight win.

Moyes, though, is wary of the potential for a surprise slip up and says it's vital his side approach every game with the same unwavering focus.

"The Premier League is too unpredictable because of the quality of the sides in every game and I think that is what's special about the league here," he said in his pre-match press conference. "Yeah, there are some great teams in Spain, some great teams in Germany and Italy, but I think it's when you go lower down that the level of the game and the intensity is better here, where the opposition still try to play.

"We've just got to make sure that we go to Wigan, prepare correctly, make sure we're in the right frame of mind and I’ve got to make sure that I do my job well enough that my players know all they can about Wigan."

Last April, Everton needed a late Leighton Baines penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium against a Wigan outfit who were again fighting for their Premier League survival.

Moyes’ opposite number Roberto Martinez went on to steer his side clear of danger on a nail-biting final day and the Everton boss won't be ruling out another Latics revival this time around.

"He (Martinez) has done a great job at Wigan," he said. "Wherever Wigan end up, for me, Roberto has gone in there and done as good a job as anybody could do, he really has. He's kept them playing good football and he's got good players.

"I think most people this time last year were writing them off saying they had no chance and they did brilliantly to come through. So he’s been there before."
