Jelavic Ready To Play
Croatian striker fit to face Wigan if needed.
Nikica Jelavic
Nikica Jelavic says he is fit and ready if called upon to make his Everton debut at Wigan on Saturday.
The striker joined the Club from Rangers for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday, penning a four-and-a-half year deal.
A Croatian international with 17 caps, Jelavic arrived at Finch Farm for his first day of training on Thursday and was officially unveiled as an Everton player.
Asked during his press conference if he feels ready to step straight into David Moyes' side, the 26-year-old replied in the affirmative but admitted he hadn’t had chance to speak to the manager about his involvement.
"I'm ready, I can promise you." he said. "I'm excited and want to show the fans what I can do.
"But I haven't spoken to the manager because I only arrived this morning so didn't have time to chat. We'll see."
The striker revealed he has contacted his international manager and former Blues defender Slaven Bilic since completing his move, however.
He said Bilic, who spent two-and-a-half years with Everton between 1997 and 2000, was pleased he had chosen Goodison Park and that his initial impressions confirmed everything the Croatia boss had told him about the Club.
"We spoke yesterday," he said. "He told me it's a big Club. Obviously we'll speak again in a couple of weeks because we have an international game but I got a good impression from him.
"It is everything that I thought it would be. Good manager, good people inside, good facilities, everything. So my first impression is very positive."
