David Moyes celebrated his 150th league win as Everton boss and immediately proclaimed it as one of his finest.
Darron Gibson's first goal for the club - smacked in via a deflection from the edge of the box - sent table-topping Manchester City hurtling towards a 1-0 defeat on a raucous night at Goodison Park.
And, after being told of the milestone provided by the victory, a proud Moyes said: "That is probably up with the best of them.
"That is as good as it has been at Goodison for a while considering the players we had missing and the team we were up against.
"So it says a lot about the Club and how we always seem to come back and do it - the players did great tonight.
"We might have played smoother football at times [in the past] but against the side we played against tonight, the players deserve a lot of credit. Man City are a terrific team. We had to defend for long periods - especially in the second half - but we limited them to not too many chances. We showed great desire to get the result."
City boss Roberto Mancini opted to take the fall for his side's defeat.
"It is impossible to always prepare well," said Mancini after the game. "I made a mistake and if you don't prepare very well, it is hard to win well."
"Here is never easy," the Italian continued."We played well against Tottenham, but here it was not enough."
The result gave the Blues their eighth victory in the last ten encounters with the Citizens, and it has certainly stirred the former Inter Milan coach.
"After tonight, after losing this game, it is impossible for me to sleep."
