Landon Donovan says Friday's 2-1 win over Fulham showed Everton are well and truly up for the cup.

The on-loan forward played a key role in sending the Blues through to round five and believes David Moyes' men have the right attitude to go all the way in the competition.

Donovan, who set up both goals against Martin Jol's side, will be available for Everton's fifth round fixture against either Blackpool or Sheffield Wednesday but will then return to parent club LA Galaxy.

But while the American knows his own Wembley dream is ultimately doomed, he is determined to do what he can to send his teammates on their way.

"I think realistically unless we go on some sort of amazing run in the Premier League it's going to be hard to finish in the top six and get into Europe, so the FA Cup is realistically our last chance at winning something," he said. "You could see by our attitude [on Friday] that we wanted to win it."

Everton's last FA Cup triumph came 17 years ago when Dave Watson lifted the trophy after a famous 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Donovan understands the wait for silverware has been a frustrating one and knows just how special a repeat of that 1995 success would be.

"I'm fairly aware what it means to the fans," he said. "I hear different things on the radio when I'm listening and talking to the guys and I think it's 1995 since Everton has had any silverware. A couple of years ago they had a good run to the final and if we get a chance to do it again it would be great."

Thoughts of the FA Cup will need to be quickly cast aside, however, with Everton set for a tricky return to Premier League action on Tuesday.

The Blues welcome table-topping Manchester City, a team who have lost just twice on the road all season.

Donovan, though, knows home comforts can bring out the best in Moyes' men and is targetting a second successive Goodison victory.

He said: "The Fulham game shows us a blueprint of what works. We have seen what doesn't work last weekend [against Blackburn] and in the last few weeks.

"Now we see if we play like this we have a chance to win.

"If we have a little more quality we can score a few more goals and that attitude and aggression, that willingness to really get after it and go for it, is something we should always play with.

"If we do we are going to have a chance every time we step onto the field.

"It's going to be here, it's going to be a night game at Goodison - which is always fun - and we're looking forward to it."
