Darron Display Pleases Boss
Moyes impressed by midfielder's Blues bow.
David Moyes was pleased with Darron Gibson’s display on his debut for Everton.
The midfielder only joined the Blues from Manchester United on Friday, but he was thrown straight in for his Toffees bow at Aston Villa 24 hours later.
And the Irishman produced a tidy performance in the centre of the park, before being substituted late on in what was only his second league appearance of the season.
"I thought Gibson played well,” said Moyes after the 1-1 draw at Villa Park. “I thought he passed the ball well. Hopefully he’ll help us and give us something we’ve lacked a little bit. He gave us a bit of composure at times and passed it nicely.
“He’ll benefit from some regular games; you can see he just ran out of steam midway through the second half.”
Moyes added: “The boys that have come from Manchester United tend to do quite well for us.
“Anyone who saw the game would think he did a decent job for us. I think nine or 10 Premier League clubs would like to have signed Darron Gibson.”
The Everton boss felt a draw was a fair result against Villa, with substitute Victor Anichebe stepping off the bench to cancel out Darren Bent’s opener.
Moyes stated: “We would probably have taken a point before kick-off when you look at the team we had out, but in saying that we went quite brave. We started with Royston Drenthe and with Landon [Donovan] and Louis [Saha] so we tried to cause them problems as well.
“We passed the ball well in the first half but they got better at the start of the second. We allowed them too much of the ball and the possession they had told. All in all, a draw was about right.”
