Pienaar To Face Blues?
Former midfielder in the running to play at White Hart Lane.
Twelve months after swapping Goodison Park for White Hart Lane, Steven Pienaar is battling to face his former Everton colleagues for the first time.
Wednesday sees the Blues visit high-flying Tottenham and after a squad shuffle for the weekend's FA Cup action which saw Pienaar handed a rare start, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has revealed he may use the South African for a second consecutive game.
"Players like Pienaar and (Niko) Kranjcar are good players and they can get in the team,” explained Redknapp in his pre-match press conference. “You saw on Saturday that they have quality and they have a big part to play between now and the end of the season.
"With Pienaar, the problem has been injuries. He’s never really got up and running. He seems to have injury after injury. He was one of their main players at Everton and it’s been a difficult year for him."
Including a former Goodison favourite would mean meddling with a midfield of Bale, Modric, Parker and Lennon – a quartet that has played such a big part in the Londoners’ superb season thus far. Indeed, a home victory would leave Spurs level on points with Manchester United and just three behind league leaders, Manchester City.
However, the Toffees will feel capable of upsetting their title challenge, with last season’s 2-1 victory and 1-1 draw illustrating just how close contests between the two sides regularly are.
