Match-winner Leon Osman believes the victory over Swansea City has provided a timely confidence boost as the Blues enter the thick of their festive programme.

A frustrating draw with Norwich kicked off a run of five games in just 19 days – a run which will now be completed with the Boxing Day trip to Sunderland, a New Year’s Day visit to the Hawthorns and a home game with Bolton on January 4.

The win over the Swans – more comprehensive than the 1-0 scoreline suggested – was vital ahead of back-to-back away games and Osman feels belief in the camp has been bolstered.

He told evertontv: “There are no easy games in the Premier League – especially when you are away on both Boxing Day and New Year's Day – but we will go into those games with confidence now and hopefully pick up some more points.

“It is always important to build on a win and go out and get another result in the next game and we will go to Sunderland and try and kick on.”

Osman’s 59th minute header capped a tremendous individual display and ultimately proved the difference between the teams on Wednesday night.

But he wasn’t keen to take the plaudits – instead highlighting the importance of the clean sheet and the impact of teammate Royston Drenthe.

“People are always surprised when they see me score headers,” he joked. “But it was an important goal and an important win for us.

“It was a corner and I managed to put it in the back of the net - but it did not matter who scored, it was about the result.

“I thought it was a good team performance and I wouldn't single out anyone. We kept a clean sheet, created plenty of chances and got the win.

“We have not scored many goals this season but one is enough when you keep a clean sheet and thankfully we managed that.”

Osman added: “Royston has made quite an impact. He is a player who can pick up the ball and run at people with pace and tricks and that is important in any league, but particularly the Premier League.”
