Mixed Feelings Over Late Show

Spirit pleases boss but he would rather see early goals.

David Moyes admits to having mixed feelings about his side’s propensity to pop up with late game-changing goals.
 
The Blues have scored eight goals in the last 15 minutes of league games and a further two in the last 15 minutes of Carling Cup ties – a number when combined makes up almost half of the team’s total of 21 goals in all competitions.
 
Both Carling Cup strikes were crucial in forcing extra time while in the league, late goals have turned potential draws with Fulham, Blackburn, Wigan and Wolves into wins.
 
Moyes believes a multitude of favourable characteristics have played a part in producing those stats – but would rather be talking about his team putting sides away early.
 
He said: “You start talking about things like fitness and keeping on going and desire and I hope we have got all of that.
 
“I would probably hope that we were winning games a bit earlier than that if that is the case as it is hard for the manager.
 
“Maybe it is that the players are coming off the bench and having an impact and that is also pleasing if that is the case.
 
“But I would not say there is one single reason for it and I don’t think it is down to any one thing. I hope we have got a team that will always keep going and trying to win a game or get back in a game, whatever way it is.”
