'Fans Pulling Us Up Table'
Jagielka's praise for Everton supporters.
Phil Jagielka has thanked the Everton fans for helping the team turn a corner.
Back to back wins have lifted the Blues up to ninth place in the table and all but banished memories of a painful run of results in October and early November.
A rather ugly victory was ground out against Wolves against the backdrop of a very willing Goodison Park, while more than 5,000 away fans helped coax the team to a superb 2-0 win at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium last weekend.
Tickets for Sunday’s game against Stoke City at Goodison are priced at £25 across the board for adults and Jagielka expects another electric atmosphere as the Blues look to build further momentum against a Potters side who have endured a torrid time on the road this term.
The England defender told evertontv: “The supporters were fantastic (at Bolton), they always are, especially in the local away games – they always come in their thousands.
“That was obviously off the back of another good showing the week before and we are all looking forward to the next game against Stoke.”
Victory at Bolton also provided a welcome clean sheet – only the Blues’ second of the campaign – and Jagielka was keen to praise the influence that key players Tim Howard and Leighton Baines continue to have on the team.
“Tim Howard and I have a good friendship, having played together for a number of years now,” he said. “I always try and back him up and make his job as easy as possible and vice versa. There was a save (at Bolton) when we were 1-0 up and I wouldn’t say it turned the game but it certainly kept our momentum going.
Jagielka added: “Bainesy was terrific again and had he shot a foot lower or passed a yard the other way he could easily have got another goal and assist. He has been fantastic for us with his set-pieces and his all-round play. At Bolton he was like another left winger.”
