Determined Gueye Ready For Action
Frenchman provides fitness boost after second string return.
Everton winger Magaye Gueye is determined to make an impact in the first team this season – sooner rather than later.
Gueye has been out for a month with a broken toe but set-up both goals as Everton Reserves beat Aston Villa 2-1 at the Halton Stadium, Widnes, on Tuesday night.
The French Under-21 international completed almost a full game and declared himself ready for action ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Wigan Athletic at Goodison Park.
"I feel better now, I was playing so well before I got injured and I was feeling really fit," Gueye told evertonfc.com.
"When I was injured I did all the training and rehab I could as I wanted to come back quickly because we need the players and I feel really good.
"The gaffer says to me I have the ability to be in the team, I just need more games. I played in the reserve team for a long time last season but now I feel ready for the first team.
"The injury gave me a bit of a break but I'm working hard everyday and if the boss calls me to go on the pitch I will be ready."
The return to fitness of Gueye and fellow winger Seamus Coleman – added to the deadline day signing of Royston Drenthe – has given the Blues enhanced options on the flanks.
Drenthe scored one of the goals in the second string win, and Gueye believes the trio can form a potent combination in the coming months.
"Royston is a top-quality player, I need people like him around because I can learn off him everyday," he explained.
"He is very quick and direct and likes to take on players and Seamus is very similar. I feel that I am involved more in the build-up play and the passing, but the most important thing is that I think we can all play together which is good for the team."
