Duggan's Double Delight
Birthday girl Duggan stars in WSL win against Chelsea.
It's been quite a couple of days for Everton Ladies midfielder Toni Duggan.
On Sunday she scored the opening goal to cap a fine individual performance in the 2-0 WSL win over Chelsea, a day before celebrating her 20th birthday.
And the result at Marine meant the Blues resumed their WSL season in the same way it was paused, with a Duggan strike laying the foundations for a victory.
Two months on from helping seal the points against Doncaster, the winger was at it again and glad to be back in action.
"We've been preparing for this game for a while now and it's good to come away with three points," Duggan told evertontv.
"Obviously getting the goal I'm delighted, it's a positive result and a good day.
"A few of the girls were just blowing the cobwebs out in the first 20 minutes but we've reinforced that we can't do that again," she added.
"Once we scored the first goal we got a bit more confidence about us and you could see that in the girls and we've got to do that from the off next time."
Duggan's performance drew praise from all quarters including Blues manager Mo Marley.
Following her opener, another of her shots was only parried by Chelsea goalkeeper Carly Telford allowing Michelle Hinnigan to tap in for 2-0.
Duggan then fashioned a couple of further chances to add to her account and Marley believes she adds an important attacking dimension to the team.
"She took the first goal really well and credit to Toni, the cross was excellent and Toni did really well to get across the defender and finish it off comfortably," said Marley.
"Toni's bright, wee know what she's capable of in the final third and she's not shy of coming forward when it comes to shots.
"We let her do those things because that's what she brings to the team."
