Arteta Out With Foot Injury

Arteta out with foot problem and Howard won't feature.

Arteta Out With Foot Injury

Everton may have to wait until they return to England to fully assess Mikel Arteta's foot injury.

The Spaniard picked up the problem during the 1-0 reverse against Philadelphia Union and has had some preliminary scans.

But David Moyes said he may not know the full extent of the injury until the squad returns to English soil.

Moyes said at a press conference before the game against DC United on Saturday: "Mikel won't play, he has quite a bad injury on his foot. He is out, definitely. We're getting a scan today, we've had an x-ray, we think we might need to go back to diagnose it correctly."

Tim Howard was at the RFK Stadium on Saturday but didn't feature in the game. The USA international had his first training session of pre-season the morning before the match.

Moyes added: "Tim Howard won't play because of his long commitments to the USA national team during the summer months.

"We have had to make sure he has had some time away with his family. He will join the team today and he will be at the game tomorrow. He will have his first training session tomorrow.

"He will be here to say hello but he won't be playing."

brennan finneganEamonn youre right about the injury probs affecting our European chances but its not the only reason Theres also the fact we tend not to sign any new players these summers, which dosnt help Surprised if you see this as its negative, although truthful

Jon Huddyahhh good old Everton, beasting the players and running them into the ground before the season starts. Four injuries already, not even kicked a ball in anger yet. Makes me laugh how everyone seems to think its such a mystery why Everton start every season so badly. The only gradual build up and rest our lads get is when they are injured and coming back from injury. Hense why when half the team is coming back from injury around xmas fully rested and come back into action gradually we suddenly start firing properly. This pre-season madness needs to calm down. Four injuries....madness.

Scott GinnettWas at the game in Philly! Saw him walk through to the dressing room at half time, and certainly didn't notice anything. Let's hope they are just being careful with him, and it's nothing serious!

Wai Kin Lowwow, no fellaini, osman, is my first choice of midfield there..but looking at the positives, youngsters are given a chance to shine! i am looking forward to ross barkley and joes baxter to start at central midfield alongside with rodwell if cahill is not fit as well.

Paul Ellamwhy is tim howard not playing? surely it would be good for the club and its bid to expand globally to play the american national keeper in games we are playing in america?

Minik HansenI say be happy that we got a great squad! It will be different this time, like every new season, its always different! It'll be just fine, one-two new faces, its all in Moyes hands, its a new season and he knows it, believe me! COYB is the word. March on for the better.

Garrett MillerNothing like traveling from 5 hours to see this game with half the stars already out injured. I knew what to expect in pre-season friendly, but did expect Tim to at least play a half in one of the games in the USA. Let's hope we can play better than against Phila.

Eamonn ByrneUh-oh. here we go. pre-season and already the injuries are starting. The amount of injuries in the last two seasons are the only reason we're not playing in Europe. Here's hoping this is not setting a trend for 2011-12. Get well. Mikel!
