Massive Season For Rodwell
Midfielder tells evertontv why 2011/12 is massive for him.
After a 2010/11 season that was blighted by injury and frustration, Jack Rodwell's ambition for the forthcoming campaign is simply to play more football.
Rodwell was given an extended summer break after his involvement in the European Under-21 Championships with England but he's back with the rest of the Everton squad and joined in training in Philadelphia on Monday morning - his first of the summer.
He knows that 2011/12 is a big one for him.
"It's a massive season for me," he told evertontv. "I've got to try and establish myself. I'm not a kid anymore and I want to be a regular."
Everton's tour of the USA started in earnest on Monday with a training session in temperatures that were measured at the early to mid 90s (farenheit).
Rodwell worked as hard as anybody but the first game on Wednesday against Philadelphia Union may just come too soon for him.
"I've not really spoken to the fitness coaches or the manager about that so we'll just wait and see what happens," he said. "The first day back in this heat was really hard but that's what pre-season is all about. I got pulled out (of the main session) and had to do my own running, which was quite hard in this heat but it's necessary and I'm just happy to be back with the lads."
The Blues midfielder is back in the Club fold after a thoroughly disappointing European Under-21 Championship when England promised so much but in the event delivered so little.
"It was disappointing the way it went but we'll take the experience from it because we're all young players," he said.
"There was high expectation and there was hype about us and we didn't achieve what we expected but that's football. There are a lot of lads who can play in the next tournament so its good experience."
