Blues Mourn Albert Johnson

Oldest former player passes away at 90.

Blues Mourn Albert Johnson

Everton Football Club was sad to learn this week of the death of Albert Johnson, who was understood to have been the Club's oldest living former player.

Albert (pictured above in the middle), passed away just a month short of his 91st birthday and our sincerest condolences are extended to his family.

Born in Weaverham in 1920, Albert made his debut for the Toffees on Christmas Day 1946 in a 4-1 win over Derby County.

He would make two further appearances for the Club that season as Everton finished 10th in the First Division. The following season (1947/48) he made another six starts, including in games against Wolves and Arsenal.

Albert, an outside right and Blues teammate of Ted Sagar, Joe Mercer and Harry Catterick, also played for Chesterfield and Witton Albion during his career.

His funeral will take place on Friday July 1 (11am) at St Bede's Roman Catholic Church, Weaverham, Northwich.

Donations should be made to Alzheimer’s Research. Cards and flowers should be sent to Mr D Ravey, 5 Moss Street, Weaverham, Northwich, CW8 3NH.

The Everton Former Players' Foundation confirmed that Albert was the oldest ex-player they were aware of.

Chris CroweBest wishes to all your family and friends, have a word with Dixie and see if you two can get BK to put his hands in his pockets this pre-season. R.I.P from every Blue throughout the world and thank you for having served the mighty blues.
