Everton’s pre-season programme is beginning to take shape after the Blues confirmed they will face Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Saturday, July 30 (3pm).

The announcement comes just days after the Club revealed they would host top Spanish side Villarreal on August 5, and takes the number of confirmed friendlies to five.

The Blues are also set to visit League One Bury on July 15, while they have scheduled games against the Philadelphia Union (July 20) and DC United (July 23) on a mini-tour of the United States.

Alex McLeish’s Birmingham side should provide a decent domestic test for Everton as they close in on the start of their 2011/12 Premier League campaign.

The Midlands side were relegated to the Championship on the final day of last season but have proved solid opponents for the Blues in the past.

Tim Cahill and a Roger Johnson own goal saw David Moyes’ side to a 2-0 win at St Andrew’s last term, but many recent fixtures between the sides have ended all square – including the return league fixture at Goodison in March.

Meanwhile, the Blues also confirmed on Monday morning that an Everton XI will travel to the Kassam Stadium on Friday, July 29 (7.45), to face Oxford United.

Ticket news for all the pre-season games will be posted on evertonfc.com as soon as it becomes available.

david harmanWhy dont we give Silva and Vellios a chance to show how good they are by starting with both strikers against B/ham. It would give both lads great chance to get some time under their belts and maybe move closer to first team starting next season.

Peter SwansonGood choice.I would have also set up a friendly with Blackburn,as they are both teams that just sit back, and were the type of team we struggled in the final third with last season. A bit of breakdown practice wouldn't go a miss this pre-season.

So disappointedQuite chuffed with that to be honest, would rather we played the likes of Birmingham, West Ham, Blackpool than a team like Villereal who will play completey differently to what we can expect in the premier league. Would rather we wen tto the states then had three friendlies against premier league or former premier league opposition in order to get ourselves ready fro the season properly.

Jason KingI think this is just the sort of game we need just before the season starts. They are still a good team regardless of there relegation, they will be a physical test and play the game near to the pace set at premiership games. It will be a good test for the players to go there and act as if it was the start of the season and come away with a result. Moyes has identified the slow starts of recent seasons and these fixtures I think will get us in the mood from the start.
