The FA WSL Is Here!

The official launch of the FA Women’s Super League took place at Wembley on Monday with all eight founder clubs travelling to London to mark the occasion.

Everton Ladies stars Toni Duggan and Michelle Hinnigan and manager Mo Marley all attended the event, with the Blues Centre of Excellence graduates both on hand for interviews and photo opportunities to help promote the new set-up.

Attendees were also entertained by good luck messages from some high-profile faces from the men’s game, including Fabio Capello, Joe Hart and Michael Owen, who all gave their best wishes to the players ahead of the exciting new venture.

Everton's first match of the inaugural FAWSL is just hours away and sees them face Liverpool in a tantalizing curtain raiser at Skelmersdale United FC.

And centre-forward Duggan say taking three points from the derby on Thursday evening would be the perfect reward for their hard work and preparation for the new league format.

"I can't wait," Duggan told evertonfc.com. "The girls are all ready and we're really looking forward to it.

"We've had a long time preparing for the opening game - everyone is looking sharp in training and hopefully it will show on the pitch on Thursday.

"There's always been a close rivalry between the two teams and that comes from the men's tradition, but regardless of the opposition we were always going to be up for this first game."

Everton's last competitive outing saw them bow out of the Women's Champions League last month to German heavyweights FCR 2001 Duisburg at the quarter-final stage.

But with two pieces of domestic silverware now within their reach with the league and league cup trophies up for grabs, Duggan says taking a title is the only way for the Blues to establish themselves as the top women’s team in the English game.

She continued: "It was a big blow going out of the Champions League and the FA Cup, so everyone is very focused with their preparation for the Super League, so now our attention has turned solely to that.

"We're a big club and we want silverware this year, so that has to be our main focus."

Everton Ladies make the short trip to Skelmersdale on Thursday evening for a 7.45pm kick-off. Tickets for the game cost £4.50 for adults and entry is free for under-16s, and tickets can be purchased from the turnstiles on the day.

CRAIG WEILDINGHope they do well.
