Everton midfielder joins Chief Executive on Thai TV

Everton’s Marouane Fellaini turned Thai TV star as he hit the screens on two popular shows on the final day of his short stay in Bangkok.

The midfielder has been in the Thai capital as part of a senior delegation from Goodison Park who travelled to the Far East to conclude a record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal with Chang.

Chief executive Robert Elstone joined Fellaini as the pair made the most of the trip by promoting the Club and their main sponsor in a packed day that also included a visit to the Everton-Chang Thai Bev Academy.

First though was an early morning appearance on one of the country’s best-known breakfast programmes, The Woody Show.

Screened on Friday at 8am local time (1am UK time) on Channel 9, one of few free to air channels in Thailand, the show pulls in millions of viewers.

Centred around the antics of madcap host Woody, the programme goes out live and bears vague similarities to former Channel 4 Show The Big Breakfast, given its offbeat and irreverent format.

In honour of Fellaini’s visit the set of the show was mocked up into a football pitch with the eccentric host even keeping goal for a penalty from the Belgian international.

That followed an interview as Woody quizzed both the midfielder and Mr Elstone about their trip to Bangkok, the Club’s new deal with Chang and Fellaini’s trademark hairstyle, among other things.

The Blues ace presented the host with a signed shirt before performing some expert ball juggling. Woody then took his place in front of a miniature goal to face a penalty from Felli.

With nothing to aim at his initial shot crashed back off the Thai TV star but the Everton man thumped the ball back through his legs to score, much to the amusement of the studio audience and the feigned chagrin of the host.

While not something he is used to, Fellaini admitted he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

“For me I am serious about football, but this was fun,” he told evertontv. “I have not done anything like this before but it was a different experience, a fun experience.”

Mr Elstone added: “The show provides great exposure for both Everton and Chang and I thought Marouane conducted himself superbly. He has been a great ambassador for the Club the entire time we have been in Bangkok.”

Later in the day the Blues entourage arrived at the headquarters of Siam, one of the Thailand’s biggest media corporations.

After signing countless autographs and posing for pictures with gleeful fans, Fellaini and Mr Elstone sat down for an in-depth interview with Star Soccer Television on Siam Sports.

The pair talked at length about Everton’s new deal with Chang while also discussing Everton’s Premier League campaign and Fellaini’s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with the Belgian national team.

And after a 20-minute interview the pair were applauded loudly as they left the set with Fellaini again patiently signing all manner of Blues paraphernalia for excited Thai Evertonians.
