Vic Fighting Fit
Anichebe eyes first team return after reserves team run-out.
Victor Anichebe
Victor Anichebe is hoping to complete a first team return after starring for the reserves.
The Nigerian played his first 90 minutes of football this season as Everton's second string drew 1-1 with Liverpool on Tuesday night, scoring a goal in the process.
Having impressed in the early stages of pre-season, Anichebe suffered a knee injury in late July and has been on the slow road to recovery since. The setback came after he missed much of the previous campaign, also with knee problems.
Now he is focusing on completing his comeback after revealing he feels that, for the first time since July, the injury is behind him.
"It was good to get 90 minutes under my belt, towards the last half an hour I was dying but it's good to get the game time and hopefully it will take me a long way," Anichebe told evertontv.
"I would say the injury is behind me. I feel it sometimes and it's been a long time but it was good psychologically to come through it and hopefully all my injuries are behind me as it has been a tough last 18 months with being injured, coming back and then getting injured again."
The powerful 22-year-old's performance in the mini-derby echoed his strong displays in Australia this summer but Anichebe knows a swift return to the first XI isn't assured.
"I worked hard in pre-season and it was hard to get injured when I did," he revealed.
"Hopefully the manager will be thinking about me now but we will see.
"I am taking slow steps and I can't just think I am going to play but hopefully I will be around the first team again soon."

Mikel ArreguiHe and Gueye should be given a try, they have a great opportunity to prove they can be good players for us. Hope they both succeed, as we badly need it.
Wednesday 24th November 20:30 Report CommentPaul Ellami risk becoming unpopular with this comment but i dont think he is the answer to our problems. he has had a few chances in the past but never taken them and was almost sold due to his impetuousness. a decent squad player maybe but not a first team striker. lets look elsewhere

John HauLooks like he is ready to play some part for our up and coming games, if we are in a good position against West Brom, I did love to see the Coleman/Anichebe combination on the right in the last 20 mins or so, otherwise it would good to see him come on for Coleman in the last 20 mins as our impact sub.

Tony KibbleWe could use him on the right as a replacement for Coleman when he tires.

Samuel Collinsanichebe is strong holds the ball up well but doesnt score enough goals and goals is what we are in desperate need of just now, so dont think he is the answer... nice to have on the bench though.

Chris BannantyneI personally love having Anichebe, he's had a bunch of tough breaks through injury, and coming back from that sort of thing I am sure it can take quite a while on the pitch to get back to a players full potential. For me, I dont believe we have had a chance just yet to see Vic's full potential - due to his unfortunate run of injury. He is very much a player in progress, and I believe if he gets a good run he will be one of our deadliest attacking forces. It is brilliant news to hear that he has returned, and I really hope Moyes gives him some game time throughout the next few weeks, I'm sure he will show signs of greatness.
