Everton boss David Moyes could have John Heitinga and Jack Rodwell back in contention to start Sunday’s game against Arsenal.

Dutchman Heitinga has recovered from a slight knee problem which kept him out of the midweek draw with Bolton, while Moyes said Rodwell is close to being ready having warmed the bench since his return from an ankle injury.

The Everton boss must decide how to replace Maroaune Fellaini, with the Belgian missing the next three games through suspension after his red card against the Trotters.

Moyes said at his Friday media conference: "Today was the first day I looked at Jack and thought ‘you are looking better’ and he said to me this morning that he is feeling stronger and more confident in his ankle.

“He has a chance of starting this weekend, I don’t think he was ready for the past couple of games but he is almost there now.

“Heitinga has had an injection, he had a slight problem with his knee but nothing desperate and he has trained today and will be back in the squad this weekend.”

Leon Osman (ankle) misses out.

Garrett MillerJohn, I disagree with the benching of Distin. I thought he played great v Bolton. It was Jags error which led to the goal. I think Heitinga needs to be in the side as he adds some attitude and aggressive play.

Mikel ArreguiPaul I see your point and agree. Hope we could get Donovan though as I think he could play in both RM and as a striker also and his pace is something we definitely would welcome. Anywasys, as Adam says, Moyes knows better and here's hoping for a result tomorrow. COYB!

Jan Ove SvendheimI think Yakubu,Saha,Fellani and Rodwell easy can compete against Cahil in the second striker would be very interesting to let them al get a chanse in that position.I miss a bit more creativity in that position, when it looks like more and more of our opponents is prepare on our attacking style (more or less Baines trying to find one head in the box)(Cahil).

Paul HowellsI mentioned putting Arteta on the right but what I meant was only if we are short of options and have to playe either Rodwell or Arteta there. Of course if everybody is fit then Arteta is always in the middle. I just meant if say Osman and Coleman are both out injured and we have no regular right midfielder then it would be better to have Arteta cover that position temporarily rather than Rodwell. Putting Rodwell on the right means losing a lot of his game and he is far less effective. If Arteta goes there he is still very effective and you dont lose Rodwells effectiveness either. But obviously I always want Arteta in the middle.

john hillyes its good aven rodwell and heitinga fit for sunday but id still like to see jonny an jags in the heart of our defense.distin has helped out at the back but his mistakes are costly.lets start turnen this posession into points.coyb...................

Wai Kin Lowmikel, rodwell probably better in attacking compared with those 2 but in defending probably fellaini and heitinga better...but those 2 are can't maintain their cool and keep getting yellow/red cards. I see rodwell more in a central midfielder than a defending midfielder though...maybe he can replace cahill next time?

Saegaran KanalanadanMike, agree with your comment as long as we play 2 up front. With Fella out, I would start with Heitinga as DM and Neville at RB. Pienaar on left, Arteta on CM and Coleman on RM. Rodwell to sub Coleman after 60mins. Saha playing off Yakubu with Beckford coming in for either for the last 20 mins. Cahill?? Well, I hate to say this but he is effective only if there is service in the box.

Mikel ArreguiRodwell for me is better than both Heitinga and Fellaini, he can deffend and attack, doesn't make unnecessary tackles and keeps his cool, plus he gels much better than the other 2 with the rest of the midfield. For me, if fit, the midfield shoul be Rodweel and Arteta centre, Pienaar left, Coleman right. Some say Arteta on the right, with that you lose his creativity and the way he moves the ball afrom one side to the other and supports the wingers. Felli is tough defensively and not bad attacking, but has a childish behaviour that must be adressed. Nevertheless, Rodders it's better, we miss him more when he's out than Felli, same that happens with Coleman, Arteta or Pienaar.

Jan Ove SvendheimWhen Felli is out,it is only Heitinga or Neville who can take the deffensive role in mdfield,Rodwell is good backup for Arteta but not for Fellani yet.COYB.

CRAIG WEILDINGRodwell is brill. But not on the right. Heitinga ?????. COYB.

Friday 12th November 17:50 Report Comment

Victor TayThe vast experience of Heitinga is important for this game in the engine room. Despite the lack of pace, the Dutch international reads the game well and could just be the man to neutralise the threat of the creativity of Cesc Fabregas (or whoever is playing there) this Sunday. It is time to beat a team from the so-called Big Four to kick-start our season once again as we seek to move up among the elite.

Minik Hansenwho said struggling? It has gotten way better, AND is getting better! I wish for a beautiful start with Heitinga. Rodders, if it's looking great.

John HauThis would be great news and i think we should field from our usual 11/12 as our starting line-up, I would go with; Howard, Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Arteta, Heitinga, Pienaar, Cahill & Yakubu/Saha. I don't know who to start at the front as Yakubu strength would cause Arsenal great problem and Saha can also cause them great problem. I would bring Rodwell on for the last 20 mins to give less pressure on Heitinga's knee, also expect Beckford to be coming on around similiar time, it would be nice if Gueye is given some playing time if we are in a comfortable lead.

Paul HowellsSome good points there Lee, Rodwell on the right wing is not a good option. He is a central midfielder and should be used there, and used there often. Good thing with rodders is that whether he plays defensive or attacking mid he does a very good job. I cant believe he is still an under 21. Totally agree stick with Coleman on the right and if need be put Arteta right and Jack centre rather than the other way round. All that said as much as I rate Heitinga as a solid defender he is not a great defensive mid in my opinion and I would prefer to see Jack start. On the defensive front I think Distin is playing really well. For a few months now he has been solid and has totally proven wrong everything I said about him before the season and the first few weeks. He is still prone to the odd error but in general I'm glad he is proving me wrong and long may it continue. Unfortunately Jags seems a little more suspect lately. We really need Jags back the way he was 9-12 months ago when nobody passed him

Friday 12th November 14:48 Report Comment

lee thrieplandplease mr moyes do not play rodwell on the right wing just to fit him in. personally i would stick with johnny i think he i much better at the holding midfield roll. why not put arteta out on the right and rodwell through the middle, personnly i would stick with colman on the right, arteta in the middle and rodders on the bench. i still cant believe we are struggling in mid table with all our options.
