Moyes Scoops Award

Moyes named Premier League Manager of the Month for October.

Moyes Scoops Award

Everton boss David Moyes has been named Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for October.

Moyes has been recognised following a superb month during which his side have gone unbeaten.

The Blues have won three and drawn one of their four Premier League matches – including a memorable victory over arch-rivals Liverpool.

October started with a 2-0 win at Birmingham – a result which saw Everton become the first side to claim a league win at St Andrew’s in a calendar year.

After that, goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta eased them past Liverpool before Leighton Baines’ spectacular free-kick was good enough to earn a point at Spurs.

Yakubu’s first goal of the season saw off stubborn Stoke last Saturday, and also took the Blues to the summit of the form table.

That impressive run has seen Moyes’ side climb the Premier League following a below par start to the season and, having begun the month in the bottom three, they were seventh immediately after the win over the Potters.

The bedrock of their good form has been a string of miserly defensive displays and Rafael van der Vaart’s equaliser at White Hart Lane is the only goal they have conceded in five games.

Moyes, a three-time LMA Manager of the Year winner, has previously been named Manager of the Month on six previous occasions.

Adam HofmanIf you watch Footage of Beckford in his days at Leeds, he is a talented striker, he can put the ball where he wants, I honestly think that if he's given time to find his feet in the top flight, and Moyesie gives him some starts he will fire!!!

nazeer cassimjeeCongratulations to Mr Moyes for a job well done. I had the pleasure of meeting David Moyes at the opening match of the World Cup in my home country in June. Let me tell you the man is a Class Act. He was kind enough to chat and take photos. A mate of mine who supports Liverpool practically begged Mr Moyes to join Liverpool. The look that Mr Moyes gave the idiot was the highlight of the World Cup for me. Anyway i agree that Everton desperately need a new owner to provide funds to match the ambition of David Moyes. I agree that if Everton had a striker on top of his game then Everton would have been in the top 4. I still think that Beckford will come good but he needs time to find his feet. In the meantime it would be a good move to acquire a sly old fox like diego Forlan in the transfer window to light the blue touch paper.

Mikel ArreguiTotally agree with Adam and Brennan. Like they say, their strikers ar being very poor this season, and it's not a matter of lack of time on the pitch, the Yak has benn a starter for many games and if he wasn't before it was due to him not being fit. A clinical striker doesn't need a third of a season to start firing. Like Brennan says, it would be nice if Moyes had some pounds to buy instead of just some pence, ESPECIALLY because he excels at buying.

brennan finneganDave I never said DM didnt do well in the pound shop. Ive always highlighted his excellent buys. My point is wouldnt it be great for him to be able to go shopping with all the opposition in the high streets for a change. Im afraid youre of the mark saying it dosnt matter who scores the goals. Any team with ambitions of EVERTON FC needs to have strikers scoring regularly and 1goal with nearly a third of the season over is very disappointing. Definitly need another striker in January.

Adam LaffoleyFair point Dave, but they're not really putting them away are they? Our midfield are meant to be those carving the chances out for the strikers - which they are, our striker just haven't been putting them away. As I stated this morning if we had a more potent/clinical goal scorer we would have won a lot more of our games. Many might say that the Yak nd Saha are clinical finishers, well they haven't been so far this season and it's not like they haven't had opportunities - be it they haven't been fully fit for part of it. Which further catalyses the fact that we could do with another striker.

DAVE HUNTERBrennan I don't think Moyes has done too badly in the 'pound shop' Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar, Jagielka, Baines, Lescott, We don't have the money for a quality forward but while the midfiled is putting them away why worry who scores the goals?

dan parkerIf we had borrowed 10 mill it would of gone on landon donavan, then we would not of seen the emergence of coleman.I think we are ok at the mo up front its the ball not falling for us (its not like we are not creating chances)yak and saha are confidence players so 60 and 20 minutes here and there are not gonna be enough for them to get a good run, need to see gueye he looks good to me.Midfield looks strong perhaps felly and tiny up top when fellys fit?IMWT

Tuesday 9th November 14:09 Report Comment

Mikel ArreguiYou're right Adam, we can't compete with a £1mill tranfer budget, thanks we have great players brought for almost nothing by Moyes and a great youth system (and a great gaffer of course) or we'd be near the bottom of the table. But not even Moyes can make us progress further without any money, and what about if players start to leave (Pienaar could be the first one). The board must find a way to provide Moyes with the necessary funds, and I don't mean a fortune at all.

Tuesday 9th November 13:27 Report Comment

brennan finneganAdam agree with your comment regarding borrowing around £10mill for a competent striker. This was something I raised all summer with negative response. Must admit though never thought the striking situation would be so bad with only 1 goal and nearly a third of the season gone.

Tuesday 9th November 09:28 Report Comment

Adam LaffoleyI know we obviously don't want to end up how our neighbours across the water ended up but I truly believe that if the board had taken a slight gamble, borrowed some money and given Moyes £10-£15mil for a new striker in the summer then I think it would have repaid itself with our leage position come the end of the season. Had we had that potent threat up front our draws and losses would have been wins - guaranteed!! Hopefully Yak is now finding his feet (and the goal). 3 points against Bolton please lads!

Tuesday 9th November 08:54 Report Comment

Andrew PatrickCracking effort Mr Moyes, now let's hope the players respond. We might have beaten Liverpool in that month but they're above us in the league now - how did we let that happen? Dropping points against Blackpool for a start. This is a real chance for us to finally deliver what we've been promising, but if that doesn't happen, no amount of LMA awards will make up for it.

Lizzie MaddenWell Done Moyesy, you deserve this. Thank you for being the manager of our great club, lets hope this run continues; one thing bothers me though. We are creating so many chances, our build up play is really good, but we cannot score. When will we see Magauye Gueye? He hasnt had a run out for ages.. IMWT

Mikel ArreguiAbsolutely deserved, congrats David! True what most of the poeple here mention, he's been here for nearly 9 year and set very high standard for our beloved club with resources that sometimes look more like a Championship's club. If only he could have THE NECESSARY money at his disposal, the money a club like Everton should have, not necessarily a fortune like others in the PL... And not only manager of the year, for his consistency he must be the best manager in the league these laast 5 years or so, in my honest opinion.

Monday 8th November 20:29 Report Comment

brennan finneganShould be manager of the year working miracles on a shoestring budget compared to all others who can spend lavishly. Edwards right if DM had been given more than the £1mill to acquire a good striker wed be in the top four now. Wer all behind you DM Well done.

Jordan GillenReally hope the idiots that we're calling for the sack of Moyes at the start of the season see this. Moyes, best manager there, no other manager would stick by a club for 7+ years without winning a trophy. IMWT!

Edward RobinsonAnd not before time for Moysie! Congratulations and lets have many more! If only David had the resources at his disposal that the reds have or Man City or Chelsea to buy a STRIKER who can STRIKE we then maybe could put the ball in the net from all the chances we are constantly producing. Ah well - one can only hope. Keep up the good work1
