Cahill Nominated For Award

Aussie up for Asian Footballer of the Year.

Cahill Nominated For Award
Tim Cahill

Everton star Tim Cahill has been shortlisted for the Asian Footballer of the Year award for the first time.

The Aussie, who was previously nominated for the 2006 Ballon D’Or, is one of 15 players in the frame for the prize which will be decided at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpar on November 24.

Cahill has enjoyed another good year for both club and country.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder played a key role in helping his country qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, scoring in crunch matches against Qatar and Japan.

And although he received a controversial red card in the Socceroos’ opening game against Germany, he returned to score in a 2-1 win over Serbia.

For Everton, Cahill was crucial to the Blues’ superb form after Christmas. His goals and energy helped the team power up the Premier League table in the latter stages of the season.

The 2010 list also includes Japan star Keisuke Honda of CSKA Moscow and Manchester United's South Korea midfielder Park Ji-Sung, who both impressed at the World Cup.

The other nominees are: Bader Al Mutawa (Kuwait), Fabio Cesar (Qatar), Farhad Majidi (Iran), Farshid Talebi (Iran), Hasan Abdel Fattah (Jordan), Husain Salman (Bahrain), Kim Hyun-gil (South Korea), Lee Dong-gook (South Korea), Li Weifeng (China), Mohsen Bengar (Iran), Sasa Ognenovski (Australia) and Osama Hawsawi (Saudi Arabia).

James HarperI was just about to mention Li Weifeng before I noticed Paul McKernan's comment. If it is the same player I'm surprised he wasn't mentioned in the article.

Edvard ChanTimmy for the Award! You are my post 1987 Everton Idol because you wear your heart on your sleeve when you play for us! You always give 120% every game. Such dedication and devotion to 1 club is pretty rare these days!

Dannii TTIMMY ALL THE WAY. Whether he wins it or not, superman will still wear Tim Cahill pyjamas. No award will truely reflect Tim's ability.

Adam DykeCongrats Tim thoroughly well deserved. Although reading another article back here in Aus last night, is a pity about the rules. Everton games don't count at all towards Tim winning the award, and Tim has to attend the awards night or he can't win it either. I can't see Tim being given leave from Everton to attend the awards night on the 24th of Nov, when it is 2 days after playing Sunderland, and 3 days before playing West Brom. Stupid rules...

brennan finneganLooked at the other 15 nominees and Tim stands well above all. I have never seen a better header of the ball in all my years watching top class footy. Also the most loyal player to both club and country. Add to that a class team player and a really nice lad. His name should already be on the award.

Paul McKernanGood Luck Tim - presumably it is the same Li Weifeng that played for us for a brief time in 2002 with Li Tie ? On what I saw, if he beats Tim then he's improved a lot since then !

Wai Kin Lowi think based on world cup performances, maybe keisuke honda will win this award instead of tim cahill but tim cahill is the best asian player we know!!!
