'A Real Humdinger'

Bracewell looks to Merseyside derby

'A Real Humdinger'

Former Everton midfielder Paul Bracewell believes there is no better way to embark on another unbeaten run on home soil than beating local rivals Liverpool in the 214th Merseyside derby.

Everton lost 1-0 to Newcastle United in their last game at Goodison and in doing so surrendered a 15 match stretch without defeat at home.

But Bracewell, who played for the Blues between 1984 and 1989, says David Moyes' men must bounce back against the Reds next Sunday (October 17).

"For Everton to go 10 months unbeaten at home before Newcastle is a fantastic effort and that is the standard that has been set," said Bracewell.

"Now they need to dust themselves down and go again, and there is no better team to start against than Liverpool."

For Bracewell, games against the neighbours were always 'unbelievable' occasions because it means so much to the supporters.

And he revealed that Everton will be desperate to claim the bragging rights on Merseyside and beat Liverpool for the 66th time.

"This fixture is the first one that Everton fans look for at the start of the season, and this season it will be a real humdinger."

Both sides go into the game looking to move up the Premier League after a slow start to the season and with so much at stake Bracewell knows it will be difficult to predict a result.

But following Liverpool's home defeat to Blackpool which left them in the Premier League's bottom three, Bracewell has urged Everton to capitalise on their opponent's current state of mind.

"Liverpool are not having the best of times and this is a really good chance to get one over them," Bracewell told evertonfc.com.

"You wouldn't want to call it though, it's a real 50-50 game that will be great for the neutral."
