Striker Campbell silences Kop with winner.
To this day Kevin Campbell is lauded by Everton fans for the scintillating form he showed early in his Blues career – and for scoring a winner at Anfield.
It took just four minutes for the visitors to secure bragging rights as Campbell steered the ball under Sander Westerveld at the Kop end in September 1999.
The goal was the product of a fine Everton move. Nick Barmby fed Francis Jeffers and his clever flick bamboozled Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia, leaving Campbell to stretch his hot scoring streak to 12 goals in 19 games.
Jeffers himself might have made it two when he raced through one on one with Westerveld and Abel Xavier wasted a gilt-edged chance in injury time. But it mattered little - Campbell's goal proved enough.
The feisty encounter will also be remembered for three sendings off. A scuffle between Westerveld and Jeffers saw both men receive their marching orders midway through the second half, and they were later joined by Reds midfielder Steven Gerrard following his waist-high challenge on the goalscorer.
