Sylvain Distin insists Everton's players are not feeling pressure despite a slow start to the new season.

The Blues have taken just one point from their opening three Premier League fixtures but the French defender insists the lowly league position has not dented the squad's confidence.

Indeed, he insists the players remain certain of their ability to fulfill their potential this season.

Distin told evertontv: "We have not scored many and we have conceded one in every game but it is strange because we feel like we have been playing well. When the games have finished we haven't felt like we have been playing well and everybody is positive - we are just missing one or two little things to get the end product.

"We know we will turn the corner very soon because we all want it, we all feel comfortable about it and right now we don't feel too much pressure. We are not enjoying it, but we don't feel under pressure because we are confident in our ability.

"Sometimes it is just a lucky goal that can change things. If you look at last weekend Steven could have scored a virtually identical goal to the one they scored but his shot hit the bar and there shot went in. That is football and sometimes it goes against you a little bit but we don't feel down because we feel we have more than enough to change the situation quickly. It is a bit of frustration because the results are not what we expectecd but altogether we have played quite well."

The defender admits conceding goals in each game has played on his mind. But he is using his experience to heed the lessons.

"Annoyed is not the word but I try to relax a bit more about it as I get older. My dad always tells me off about it because even if we win the game I focus on the negative things - the tackle you missed or the foul you committed. I always focus on the those things. It may not be a bad thing if you deal with it in the right way. If you learn from it, it is fine. But if you put pressure on yourself as a result that is not good. But I am at the stage of my career where I can take the positives. I am a defender and I like to do good things at the back and keep a clean sheet as a team. The whole team defends together."

Distin also feels his partnership with Phil Jagielka can become a key asset for the Blues.

He explains: "You really depend on the guy you are playing with and with Phil we don't really feel the need to talk because we understand each other without needing to talk. It happens sometimes when you find that chemistry. But we are still conceding goals so it means we can do better.

"We have paid a big price for small mistakes in every game. We continue to work hard and obviously we can't be happy because we haven't won a league game but we feel like we are doing the right things so we are still positive. If we carry on like that it can only be positive."

Minik HansenLet's see what happens on Saturday, I for once is optimistic about this game. No concerns, just push the ball forward through the red guests!

Jeremy Wallace"we don't feel under pressure because we are confident in our ability" Christ alive they should be hanging their heads in shame. It was what, 18 corners at Villa with nothing to show for it? We need a out and out goalscorer which Saha threatens occasionally, the Yak is not a force at the moment and Beckford is coming to terms with the Premiership. The others are trying but not getting anywhere. This is gonna be like last season I can see it now. Soooo frustrating.

Neil SteeleTo be fair, none of the players or the manager look like they are feeling the pressure to be honest. In fact, they look like they couldn't care less about being a bunch of losers. Which may go some way to explaining why we keep throwing points away against garbage opposition.

Edward RobinsonSylvain, all I can say is that if the players are not feeling the pressure THEY SHOULD BE! as it is ANOTHER APPALLING start to the season and if we don't start putting some balls in the net and stopping balls into our net we are back against the wall! Pull your fingers out lads and get some positive results.
