Skipper Set For Cup Return

Neville and Yobo could be back for the Huddersfield game.

Phil Neville

Everton could welcome back captain Phil Neville for Wednesday's clash with Huddersfield.

The captain missed the 1-1 draw with Wolves at the weekend with a foot injury and will have a fitness test on Wednesday morning.

Joseph Yobo is set to return to the squad but Yakubu misses out after taking a knock in training on Monday.

"Phil will have a fitness test in the morning, he is about 50/50," Everton assistant manager Steve Round revealed at the pre-match press conference.

The impending Carling Cup clash inevitably brought about questions regarding squad rotation and Round said that while there may be changes, it would serve only to illustrate the competition for places in the Everton squad.

"There might be one or two changes but whoever we put out, it will be a strong team, that is for sure," he said.

Nigerian defender Yobo could feature for the first time this season but his compatriot Yakubu is out after being injured in training.

"He (Yakubu) should be fit for the weekend, he took a whack in training on Monday and he couldn't complete training today," reported Round.

"Joe is in the squad tomorrow and Yak would have been but he picked up a whack and is out. They are both in contention and will hopefully play a big part in us having a good season."

Everton: Howard, Mucha, Neville, Hibbert, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Yobo, Heitinga, Baines, Rodwell, Arteta, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov, Pienaar, Gueye, Saha, Vaughan, Osman, Cahill, Beckford.

Jeffrey Stuart KirkhamI agree with Chris Skillicorn that we should go in for Taylor (or maybe try & get him to sign a pre-contract that he will join us when his contract runs out in summer). I think he is our type of defender and I'll be honest I was disappointed that DM didn't buy him instead of Distin last year. He's defo worth a shot.

Mikel ArreguiWe must play the best possible team, we HAVE TO win a cup, it's high time to win silverware and have title hunger! The best players right now for me include Coleman and Rodwell and maybe Gueye could get a run in the secons half. Of course, Moyes knows better, but I'd play 4-4-2, Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Coleman, Rodwell, Pienaar, Arteta, Cahill, Saha, Beckford and maybe give chances to Fellaini (I guess he's quite in shape to play as a substitute at lesat by now), Gueye and Vaughan.

chris skillicornGot to give Coleman a run out tonight, I honestly can not understand why he is not starting, every game he has played he has impressed, if he gets more starts under his belt I am sure he can improve further, perhaps Moyes is trying to keep him secert so no big money offers come in??? Not sure to be honest I really can't see why Moyes wouldn't pick him, just noticed on Sky Sports that Steven Taylor is on the transfer list, surely Moyes will go for him? Good strong player who will score a few goals too.

Jeffrey Stuart KirkhamColeman, Rodwell & Gueye have to start!!! Maybe then, after they've demolished Huddersfield, we might get a glimpse of them in the league!!! I'd play Coleman before Hibbert every time, without hesitation!!!

stephen lathamI think the return of our captain can only be good.We looked a bit lost without leadership. And I'm sorry to say that I don't think Arteta is a good replacement.C'mon Phill, sort em out.

Gary WrightLets give a run to some of the players unpick-ed and see what they can do eh Moyes...? Mucha in goal Rodwell in the middle, Coleman at right back Gueye upfront with Beckford and Silva on the bench... rest Jags and put Heitinga with Distin at the back. A positive team selection and formation would be nice...! COYB

John HauI agree with Michael, I know the Carling Cup is important to us, but there is no need to play the exactly seem team we do in the league, I did certainly want to see Coleman & Rodwell starting the game, and hopfully we'd see Gueye play some part in the second half.
